Working with the city of San Francisco’s Homeless Outreach Team (SFHOT), The Welcome Ministry is helping people gain access to supportive housing.

Lisa and Dominic had been in contact with the Homeless Outreach Team on their own, but did not trust the city.  They came to the Welcome Ministry because they did not want to have to live on the streets anymore.  Because the Welcome Ministry’s focus on hospitality, Lisa and Dominic quickly built a trusting relationship with the director who helped them take advantage of the city’s services.  Now, Lisa and Dominic are living indoors and accessing medical care.

Stella, 55, was fed up with living in the shelter when she came to the Welcome Ministry.  She was also having a hard time walking, because her legs were swollen all the way up to her knees.  With the help of the SFHOT, Stella will either be moving into supportive housing, or getting a one way ticket to Hawaii so she can live with her daughter.

Supportive Housing

Robert S. is now methadone and working to get into a drug treatment facility.  With the Welcome Ministry’s help and support Robert has been working through the city to get his teeth fixed.  Robert is also working on getting supportive housing from the San Francisco Homeless Outreach Team.  The Welcome Ministry also helps Robert stay connected with his family so they can offer him additional support.

Tiffany was living in a shelter when she first started coming to the Welcome Center and working as a stripper.  Now, Tiffany is working as a security guard.  Tiffany uses counseling services at the Welcome Center regularly and is reconnecting with her family. Recently, Tiffany has been accepted to City College and will begin classes in the Fall.  In preparation for her classes, Tiffany is also working with the Welcome Center to get out of debt and take care of medical bills that are pilling up.

Robert L. has stayed off drugs for 4 months as he has been volunteering at the Welcome Center.  Dan has been accepted to City College and will begin classes this summer.  Danielle has been sober and off drugs for 90 days.  Norman has been volunteering at the Welcome Center for several months now and his speech impediment is getting noticeably better.
